CROWLEY, TX (10/10/2016) — A head-on wreck on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of William Hewson and Matthew Aikin.
According to the Star-Telegram, 55-year-old William Hewson (of Crowley) and 47-year-old Matthew Aikin (of Godley) died following a wrong-way collision that occurred in the 4200 block of West Farm Road 1187 in Crowley, Texas.
Police reported that at around 4:30 p.m., Hewson was traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet pickup truck and Aikin was traveling westbound in a GMC Yukon when the two crashed head-on. The impact caused the two vehicles to briefly catch fire, making extraction difficult for emergency responders.
“It is difficult to tell at this point who came into each other’s lane,” said Terry Grisham, Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Hewson lost his life at the scene. Aikin was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where he later died.
An investigation is ongoing.
At this moment, police are unsure which driver drifted into oncoming traffic and spurred on this wreck. Police are still investigating the accident, and once more information is released, we will provide further updates.
