Jones Family Begs Driver Who Killed Their Son to Come Forward

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a full 2 months since Jason Jones, age 26, was killed in a hit-and-run on the George Bush turnpike while changing a tire. It’s troubling that even now the hit-and-run driver is still at large. After two months of investigation without leads, the family made a heart-wrenching appeal on the news. Jones’ parents asked that the driver who killed their son come forward and help them find closure. Grieving mother, Penny Jones, told reporters, “it’s the most devastating thing a parent could go through, to not have the opportunity to have closure.”

The police are going through toll tag records to try to find the culprit. Unfortunately, there are no cameras on the Belt Line Road ramp onto the turnpike where the accident took place. It’s difficult to believe that the police will be able to find the driver responsible with so little evidence. No doubt the family has also come to the same depressing conclusion. Penny Jones begged, “We need this — we need you to come forward.”

It’s possible that the accident was not the driver’s fault as Jones’ car did not have its emergency lights flashing on what was a dark, foggy night. If the driver had stayed at the scene and rendered aid, he or she may not have ended up breaking the law. It’s too late to correct those mistakes now, but maybe after hearing the family’s wishes the driver will be brave enough to come forward and take responsibility for the accident.
