DART Driver Fired For Causing Tollway Crash

Crash Aftermath, WFAA Photo

DART driver Willie Grant who was behind the wheel of the paratransit bus that caused the Dallas North Tollway multi-vehicle accident last week was finally fired. Footage from the accident shows that the Grant did not even apply the brakes before battering into what were practically parked cars along the I-35 access ramp. Two people were injured in the crash including 28-year-old Jose Sepulveda. Sepulveda, a young husband and father, broke his hip, arm, leg and 11 ribs. He is still in recovery.

Grant had been on administrative leave with pay after the accident until a full investigation was completed by DART. Grant was a paratransit operator for 11 years with a good safety record, so the question was – what caused him to make such an obvious mistake? Why couldn’t he apply the brakes and correct it? The only information that the transportation company would offer was that they found no evidence of cell phone, drug or alcohol use. Whatever distracted Grant remains a mystery to us.
