ROANOKE, TX (12/19/2015) — A Saturday morning car accident along Highway 170 claimed the life of husband and father Richard Perrin.
Keller Police Capt. Thomas Simmons reported that 57-year-old Richard Perrin was killed along 3300 Highway 170 in Roanoke, Texas when an oncoming vehicle struck him.
Authorities stated that Perrin was standing behind his wife’s vehicle, which had broken down on the highway, when an eastbound vehicle struck him. Perrin died at the scene of the accident.
Pedestrian accident statistics in Texas are astounding. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, in 2014, Texas encountered 4,735 auto-pedestrian accidents; of which, 480 resulted in fatalities. We urge drivers to follow the “move over or slow down” rule not only when passing emergency vehicles, but also when passing an accident site or a stalled vehicle where people are likely to be outside of their cars or standing near the roadway.
