LUBBOCK, TX (08/03/2017) — 18-year-old Jonathan Pesqueda was killed and two were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver on South Loop 289 caused a fatal head-on accident early Friday morning.
According to Lubbock Police, the accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of South Loop 289 near Indiana Avenue at about 2:55 p.m. An initial investigation indicates that the driver of a pickup truck traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of South Loop 289 collided head-on with a car driven by 18-year-old Jonathan Pesqueda.
Pesqueda was transported by ground ambulance to University Medical Center Lubbock, but was later pronounced deceased. The 26-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, along with his 22-year-old male passenger, were transported by ground ambulance to Covenant Medical Center for treatment of moderate to serious injuries.
Investigators indicated that they believe alcohol may have been a factor in this wreck, but at this time, it appears that no charges have been filed. We will continue to update this page as the investigation continues and more information is released.
