KEENE, TX (08/07/2016) — A motorcycle accident on Sunday morning claimed the life of John Stringer.
The Keene Police Department (KPD) identified 55-year-old John A. Stringer Jr. (of Arlington, Texas) as the victim of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on Highway 67 near Wallen Ridge Drive (WallenRidge) in Keene, Texas.
According to the KPD, shortly before 9:30 a.m., 64-year-old Carol Mason was traveling eastbound on the highway in a Brown 2017 Kia Sportage SUV when she attempted to turn left onto Wallen Ridge, directly in the path of Stringer’s orange/maroon 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was traveling westbound on US-67.
Stringer, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was unable to avoid the collision. He was transported via air ambulance (CareFlite) to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where he later died.
Authorities reported that Mason sustained minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.
An investigation is ongoing.
This is a tragic reminder of why drivers must remember to look twice for motorcyclists. While they may be smaller than passenger cars, it is every driver’s responsibility to ensure that they do not act recklessly, and that they have the right of way before crossing opposing lanes of traffic.
To those affected by this terrible situation, we offer our condolences.
