MANOR, TX (10/09/2015) — A street racing accident killed Ender Lopez and left two other teenagers hospitalized on Friday night.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 15-year-old Ender Lopez was killed on Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle in Manor, Texas.
This accident occurred at the intersection of Wells Lane and Wells School Road.
Authorities reported that a 2014 Cadillac and 2009 BMW 3-series (driven by 17-year-old Victor Garcia) were racing along Wells School Road.
As he was racing, Garcia allegedly saw vehicle approaching his car, which caused him to veer off the roadway to avoid a collision. However, Garcia struck a parked vehicle and pushed it into Lopez, who was a bystander.
Ender Lopez died at the scene.
Garcia also struck two other teenage bystanders. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to be okay.
The DPS was unable to get information on the other racer involved. At this time, it is unknown whether or not charges will be filed against any of the drivers involved in the wreck.
I expect that criminal charges will eventually be filed against those responsible for this young man’s death as the narrative seems to indicate that the accident was the result of reckless driving. I just hope that other teens will take this tragedy as a lesson. Driving is an enormous responsibility. One driver’s reckless actions can have tragic consequences—not only to the driver—but to innocent bystanders as well.
