AMARILLO, TX (05/16/2016) — Amanda Wilkerson was killed, and one juvenile was injured, following a multi-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon.
According to the Amarillo Police Department (APD), 33-year-old Amanda Wilkerson was killed in a three-vehicle accident that happened in the 6600 block of Coulter Street in Amarillo, Texas.
The APD reported that at around 3:30 p.m., the male driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding and swerving on the road when he clipped a Chevrolet Cobalt. The impact sent the Cobalt into a Ford Taurus, which spun out of control and struck a tree.
Wilkerson, who was the driver of the Taurus, sustained considerable injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her passenger, a male juvenile, was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. No one in the Cobalt sustained injuries.
The driver of the Jeep attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was stopped by witnesses and later arrested.
Police suspect drugs and alcohol as possible factors that lead to this fatal collision. An investigation is pending.
If the investigation reveals that the driver who caused this accident was intoxicated at the time, he could face criminal charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. We will provide more information as it becomes available. To those affected by this tragic event, we offer our condolences.
